SCENE 1: The Shadow of the Net

NARRATOR: Many years ago, a flock of more than a thousand quails lived together in a lush forest in India. They would have been perfectly happy, except for one terrifying shadow that loomed over them: the Fowler.

[BESSY and JESS pace back and forth, looking around nervously.]

BESSY: (Shivering) Did you hear that sound earlier? I swear it was him. Every time I hear a quail call lately, my heart stops. Is it a friend, or is it him imitating us?

JESS: I know! It’s exhausting. That horrible, heavy net… it comes out of nowhere! One minute you’re eating berries, the next you’re trapped in the dark.

BESSY: And then straight to the market cages we go. If we don’t find a way to stop him, there won’t be any of us left!

JESS: I want to do something, Bessy, I really do. But how can tiny birds like us fight a giant human?

[The WISE QUAIL steps forward from the shadows, raising a wing calmly.]

WISE QUAIL: By remembering that a thousand tiny wings are stronger than one giant human.

JESS: Wise Quail! How long have you been standing there?

WISE QUAIL: Long enough to hear your fears, brothers. But I have a plan. Listen closely. The next time the fowler throws his net over us, do not panic. Do not scatter.

BESSY: But what do we do?

WISE QUAIL: Each of you must poke your head through a single mesh of the net. Then, on my count, we all flap our wings together. We lift the net as one, fly into the sky, and drop it onto the thorn bushes!

JESS: (Eyes wide) Drop his own net onto the thorns? He’d spend hours untangling it!

BESSY: That’s brilliant! Let’s go spread the word to the rest of the flock.

SCENE 2: The Hunter’s Frustration

NARRATOR: The plan was a resounding success. The very next day, the fowler cast his heavy net. But instead of trapped cries, he heard the thunderous beat of a thousand pairs of wings. The quails lifted the net, flew high into the air, and dumped it squarely onto a sharp thorn bush.

[The FOWLER enters, looking exhausted, scratched up, and empty-handed. His WIFE stands waiting, arms crossed.]

FOWLER’S WIFE: (Scoffing) Empty-handed again? Look at you! Scratched by briars and not a single bird to sell. Why is it that you can’t catch a single quail anymore?

FOWLER: (Throwing his hands up) It’s not my fault! I’m telling you, the birds have changed. They are working together! The second my net lands, they fly off with it like some multi-winged monster!

FOWLER’S WIFE: They are birds, you fool. They don’t have a king.

FOWLER: Mark my words, wife. Their strength is in their unity. The moment they start arguing—and birds always argue—I will catch them all. I just have to wait for a fight.

SCENE 3: The Rift

NARRATOR: It did not take long for the fowler’s prediction to come true. A few days later, the flock alighted on the feeding ground. In the rush for seeds, Snippy accidentally bumped into Stixy.

[STIXY and SNIPPY are pecking at the ground. SNIPPY bumps into STIXY.]

STIXY: (Rubbing their head, snapping) Hey! Watch where you’re flapping, Snippy! You nearly took my eye out!

SNIPPY: Oh, calm down, Stixy. It was an accident. I didn’t mean to hit you.

STIXY: An accident? I saw you looking right at me! You did that on purpose because I got to this patch of seeds first.

SNIPPY: (Scoffing) Don’t flatter yourself. I didn’t even see you standing there.

STIXY: Liar! You’re just selfish. In fact, now that I think about it, last week when we lifted the net, I was doing all the heavy lifting. You were barely even flapping!

SNIPPY: (Gasping, offended) I was flapping until my feathers ached! You were the one slacking off, pretending to help while the rest of us saved your life!

STIXY: Oh, really? That’s easy to say when nobody was watching!

NARRATOR: The argument grew louder and louder. Soon, other quails began taking sides, shouting and bickering over who was stronger, who was faster, and who did the most work.

SCENE 4: The Fall

[The FOWLER creeps up in the background, grinning.]

FOWLER: (Whispering) Ah, listen to that beautiful sound. Petty bickering! My time has come.

[The FOWLER makes a loud quail call. He steps forward and throws a large net over STIXY and SNIPPY.]

WISE QUAIL: (Shouting from the sidelines) The net! The net has fallen! Put your heads through the mesh! One, two, three, LIFT!

STIXY: (Struggling under the net, but shouting at Snippy) Lift, Snippy! Why aren’t you lifting? I’m not doing all the work for you again!

SNIPPY: (Glaring) Why should I lift for a bully like you? You lift it!

STIXY: No, you!

WISE QUAIL: Stop fighting! Work together or we are lost!

NARRATOR: But it was too late. While the two quails wasted their breath boasting and arguing, they never flapped their wings. They never lifted the net.

FOWLER: (Laughing triumphantly) Got you! No teamwork today, eh?

[The FOWLER scoops up STIXY and SNIPPY, locking them in his basket.]

WISE QUAIL: (Sighing heavily, watching them get carried away) Alas… they chose pride over survival. Let this be a lesson to the rest of us.

NARRATOR: The Wise Quail immediately led the remaining flock deep into a safer part of the forest. They had learned a bitter truth: cooperation brings safety, but internal quarrels are the root of absolute misfortune.

Conclusion: The remaining quails followed the Wise Quail deep into the safety of the forest, never forgetting the painful lesson they had learned. They understood that their greatest strength had never been their wings, speed, or cleverness—it had been their unity.

From that day forward, the flock worked together with kindness and respect, knowing that cooperation could protect them from even the greatest dangers. And whenever disagreements began to rise among them, they remembered the fate of Stixy and Snippy, who allowed pride and arguments to destroy the teamwork that once kept them safe.

The Unity of the Quails teaches us that when people work together and support one another, they can accomplish amazing things. But when they allow anger, selfishness, and pride to divide them, everyone suffers.
