
In The Talking Parrot’s Great Escape, when Jerry is given the important task of taking care of Rex—the class’s very talkative parrot—he is determined to prove he can be trusted. But with his curious twin brother Eddy nearby, things don’t go exactly as planned!

Scene I – In the Classroom
(Jerry, Eddy, and Miss Sue are in the classroom.)
JERRY: Miss Sue, where’s Rex?
MISS SUE: He’s at the principal’s office. Don’t forget to take him home when you leave.
JERRY: I won’t! I’m very excited to have him for the weekend.
EDDY: You mean we are excited.
MISS SUE: Sorry, Eddy. This time, Rex is Jerry’s responsibility.
JERRY: Did you hear that? My responsibility!
(The school bell rings.)
MISS SUE: Take good care of him, Jerry. See you both on Monday.
JERRY & EDDY: Bye, Miss Sue!
(They exit.)
Scene II – At Home
(Jerry and Eddy are in their bedroom. Rex is in his cage.)
JERRY: Listen, Eddy. Stay away from Rex’s cage. I don’t want any problems.
REX: I’m Rex! I’m Rex!
(Grandmother enters.)
GRANDMOTHER: Oh, what a beautiful bird!
REX: What a beautiful bird!
EDDY: Hi, Grandma! Rex is our class pet.
GRANDMOTHER: Be careful with him. Keep the door closed.
JERRY: Don’t worry. He’ll stay in his cage.
(Grandmother exits. Mother enters.)
MOTHER: Jerry, Louis is on the phone.
JERRY: Thanks, Mom.
(Jerry and Mother exit. Eddy stays.)
REX: I’m Rex! I’m Rex!
EDDY: It’s so hot in here!
(He tries the air conditioner.)
EDDY: It’s not working… I’ll open the window.
(He opens the window.)
REX: I’m hungry! I’m hungry!
EDDY: Jerry told me not to… but okay…
(He looks for food and finds it.)
EDDY: Here it is!
(He opens the cage. Rex flies out.)
REX: I’m going home! I’m going home!
EDDY: No! Come back! Oh no… I’m in big trouble!
(Jerry, Mother, and Grandmother rush in.)
MOTHER: What’s wrong?
GRANDMOTHER: Why are you yelling?
JERRY: Where’s Rex?!
(Eddy starts crying.)
EDDY: I’m sorry! I tried to feed him, and he escaped!
JERRY: What?!
MOTHER: Why did you open the window?
EDDY: It was too hot… I didn’t know what else to do…
JERRY: I told you to stay away from the cage! What are we going to do now?
GRANDMOTHER: Tell your teacher the truth.
JERRY: She’ll never trust me again…
MOTHER: Let’s talk to her.
(They exit.)
Scene III – Miss Sue’s House
(They knock. Miss Sue opens the door.)
MISS SUE: Oh! What a nice surprise, Jerry!
JERRY: Miss Sue… I’m so sorry… I lost Rex.
(They suddenly hear Rex.)
REX: I’m Rex! I’m Rex!
JERRY: What was that?!
MISS SUE: That’s Rex. He came back home.
EDDY: Please don’t blame Jerry—it was my fault! And… Rex said he was going home!
REX: I’m hungry! I’m hungry!
EDDY: Oh no… not again!
(Everyone laughs.)
