SCENE 1
Setting: The King’s royal chambers. A lavish room with a large window. King Daniel stands by the window, wringing his hands. PRINCESS SERAPHINA stands with her arms crossed, looking stubborn.
NARRATOR: In a far-off kingdom, there lived a ruler known as King Daniel the Great. However, his greatness was a little overshadowed by a persistent problem: his daughter, Princess Seraphina, refused to get married. One night, the King decided to have it out with her once and for all.
KING: Seraphina, please, just give me one good reason. That’s all I ask!
PRINCESS: I’ve already told you, Father. Please, don’t insist.
KING: You have to understand my position. [He gestures around the room.] Look at all this! I rule this entire kingdom. It will all be yours one day!
PRINCESS: I know, Father, but I don’t feel a connection to any of the men in our court. I can’t just marry for the sake of it!
KING: There are plenty of fine men here! Noblemen, merchants, scholars… What kind of man do you want, then?
PRINCESS: I want a husband who is special—someone unlike any other.
KING: Special in what way?
PRINCESS: Let me put it this way, Father: I will only marry the bravest man in the kingdom.
KING: What? Are the heroes who fought for this kingdom not brave enough for you?
PRINCESS: No, they’re not. I want the treasure hidden inside the enchanted castle.
KING: Ah! So that’s it, is it? You’re not satisfied with what I’ve given you? You’re not content with your gilded cage, so you want more! The entire kingdom isn’t enough for you!
PRINCESS: You’re wrong, Father. I don’t want the treasure. I only desire the man who can bring it to me—the man who is brave enough to enter that castle, the man who can face whatever horrors lie within and still emerge victorious. I just want that man.
KING: But that’s impossible! No one dares to go there! People say horrible ghosts and terrible witches haunt it.
PRINCESS: There must be someone. If you want me to get married, then do something about it!
KING: Very well. Let me speak with my advisors. I’ll see you in the morning.
PRINCESS: Good night, Father.
KING: Good night, my darling.
SCENE 2
Setting: The King’s royal chambers, later that night. The King sits at a large table, rubbing his temples. Three advisors stand opposite him, looking equally stressed.
NARRATOR: That very same night, the King called for his most trusted advisors.
KING: Think! Think! Think!
ADVISOR 1: But, Your Majesty, no one will go to that castle! You know this.
ADVISOR 2: We have to be realistic.
ADVISOR 3: Which means…
KING: There are no brave men in my kingdom!
ADVISOR 1: We should tell the truth to the people.
ADVISOR 2: Yes, let’s announce that the Princess will marry the bravest man in the country.
NARRATOR: The next day, the news spread like wildfire. The King waited and waited, but nobody came. Until, one day, a young man named Fearless John asked to see the King.
SCENE 3
Setting: The throne room. The King sits on his throne. Fearless John stands before him, a simple, unassuming figure.
FEARLESS JOHN: Your Majesty, I heard you are looking for the bravest man in the kingdom.
KING: It’s true. Do you know someone who would go to that castle? Someone brave and strong?
FEARLESS JOHN: Yes, Your Majesty. It’s me. I will bring the treasure.
KING: [Laughs loudly.] You? You’re a dreamer! You’re short and thin, and you look weak!
FEARLESS JOHN: Your Majesty, they call me Fearless John because I am not afraid of anything.
KING: That’s hard to believe. Maybe you should reconsider.
FEARLESS JOHN: I have nothing to think about. I will go to the castle tonight.
KING: It’s up to you, then. Just bring me the treasure, and my daughter will be yours.
SCENE 4
Setting: The interior of the enchanted castle. It is dark, dusty, and full of cobwebs.
NARRATOR: That same night, Fearless John journeyed to the enchanted castle, a place where no one had dared to set foot in years.
FEARLESS JOHN: [He looks around.] It’s so dark in here. Dirty, and there are spiderwebs everywhere.
NARRATOR: Suddenly, a ghost appeared.
FEARLESS JOHN: Hello, Mr. Ghost.
NARRATOR: The ghost floated toward a dining room, and Fearless John followed. But before entering, he heard a terrifying noise: CRASH! BASH! SMASH! Fearless John turned around and called out.
FEARLESS JOHN: Do you think you can scare me? You’d better stop that racket!
NARRATOR: The loud noise was made by a gigantic snake slithering down the stairs.
FEARLESS JOHN: I can’t waste my time on you. Go back up!
NARRATOR: The snake immediately slithered back upstairs. Fearless John entered the dining room. In the center of the room sat a large dining table, where two green witches with shocking red hair and two ghosts with huge ears were gathered.
GHOST 1: Come here, Fearless John!
FEARLESS JOHN: Oh, so you know my name.
GHOST 2: We know everything, and why you’re here.
WITCH 1: Would you like to dine with us?
FEARLESS JOHN: Sure. I’m quite hungry!
WITCH 2: Will you taste our soup, made from frog eyes, snake tongue, and lizard tail?
FEARLESS JOHN: Yes, it looks delicious!
GHOST 1: You are our guest of honor.
GHOST 2: Sit down!
NARRATOR: Fearless John sat at the table and ate dinner with them. When he finished, he said:
FEARLESS JOHN: Thank you for this wonderful meal. I feel tired. I’m going upstairs to sleep. Oh, and please don’t make a lot of noise. I really need to rest.
WITCH 1: Pleasant dreams, Fearless John.
ALL WITCHES & GHOSTS: [They cackle loudly.] Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
NARRATOR: Fearless John went upstairs. As soon as he found a bed, he fell asleep. At midnight, he felt the bed moving, and he woke up.
FEARLESS JOHN: Oh, this is fun! I’m flying! This is the first time in my life I’ve slept in a flying bed!
NARRATOR: Then, the bed came down to the ground.
FEARLESS JOHN: Well, that was nice.
NARRATOR: And he went to sleep once again. The next day, when he woke up, he was surrounded by ghosts and witches.
FEARLESS JOHN: Good morning! I feel much better after a good night’s sleep. What can I do for you?
GHOST 1: You’re the first person who has treated us kindly.
GHOST 2: That’s right. Everyone else has tried to harm us.
WITCH 1: Or get rid of us.
GHOST 1: We want to give you the treasure you came for.
GHOST 2: Take this bag of gold coins.
WITCH 1: And this box of precious jewels.
FEARLESS JOHN: Oh, thank you very much!
NARRATOR: He hugged the witches and ghosts.
FEARLESS JOHN: I have to go now.
WITCH 2: Goodbye, Fearless John.
SCENE 5
Setting: The throne room. The KING is pacing impatiently. FEARLESS JOHN enters, carrying a bag and a box.
NARRATOR: He left the enchanted castle and went straight to the King’s palace. When he arrived, he asked to see the King.
KING: You’re back!
FEARLESS JOHN: Yes, Your Majesty, and I have the treasure with me.
KING: I must see it before I tell my daughter.
NARRATOR: Fearless John showed the King the gold coins and the precious jewels. The King was delighted.
KING: Wonderful! My daughter will be here in a few minutes. Guard!
NARRATOR: A guard entered the room.
KING: Tell my daughter to come here immediately.
GUARD: Yes, Your Majesty.
NARRATOR: After a few minutes, the Princess entered the room.
PRINCESS: You wanted to see me?
KING: Yes. This is Fearless John, and he brought the treasure from the enchanted castle.
NARRATOR: The Princess looked surprised, but at the same time, a smile of satisfaction crept across her face.
PRINCESS: Oh, thank you! I will keep my promise to marry the bravest man in the kingdom.
KING: Tomorrow, my people will know that my daughter is to be married!
PRINCESS: Yes, Father. And please, give the treasure to the people who need it most.
KING: I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me.
NARRATOR: And so, Fearless John and the Princess had a magnificent wedding and lived happily ever after.
Fearless John and the Enchanted Castle reminds us that bravery shines brightest when paired with kindness. Fearless John did not win by fighting but by showing respect and courage in the face of fear. In the end, he gained not only treasure and a princess’s hand but also the love of the people and the gratitude of magical beings.
