SCRIPT:
ACT I – At Witch Morganna’s Hut
(Chester and Edwin stand nervously outside a crooked hut in the woods. Strange lights flicker from the windows.)
CHESTER: This place is terrifying.
EDWIN: Are you sure you want to go in?
CHESTER: I have no choice. This is my last hope.
EDWIN: Or we could turn around and forget all about it.
CHESTER: No! I need that potion of wisdom.
EDWIN: I was joking when I told you about her, you know. What if it doesn’t even work?
CHESTER: It will. I can feel it.
(Chester knocks. The door creaks open, and Witch Morganna appears, her long, silvery hair glowing in the candlelight.)
WITCH MORGANNA: Come in, children. I was expecting you.
(They step inside, wide-eyed. The hut is filled with bubbling cauldrons and shelves lined with mysterious bottles.)
CHESTER: Do you… Do you have the Potion of Wisdom?
WITCH MORGANNA: If you have the money, I have the potion.
CHESTER: I have it.
(He hands her a handful of coins. Morganna gives him a small bottle filled with shimmering purple liquid.)
WITCH MORGANNA: Drink only a tiny sip, and only on the day you need it most. The effects will last just a few hours. Do you understand?
CHESTER: I think so.
EDWIN: Wait… what happens if he—
WITCH MORGANNA: (interrupts) Follow the instructions… or regret it. Now, go, before I change my mind and turn you into frogs!
CHESTER: Let’s go, Edwin!
(They rush out. Morganna cackles as the door slams shut.)
ACT II – At School
(The classroom is silent. Students sit at their desks, ready for the big test. Miss Emma watches from the front.)
EDWIN: Are you okay, Chester?
CHESTER: I feel… strange. My head hurts. My heart is pounding.
EDWIN: Did you drink the potion of wisdom like she said?
CHESTER: No… I drank all of it.
EDWIN: WHAT?! Are you out of your mind?!
CHESTER: I didn’t want to waste my money.
EDWIN: She warned you!
CHESTER: Relax. I’ll ace this test and be done with it.
MISS EMMA: Silence! You have thirty minutes. Begin!
(Chester begins writing furiously, grinning.)
CHESTER: This is so easy! I’m a genius! (He finishes quickly and hands in his paper.)
MISS EMMA: Already? You’re pale as a ghost… are you sure you’re alright?
CHESTER: Never better.
(Edwin watches him leave, worried.)
ACT III – At Chester’s House
(Edwin sits at Chester’s desk, holding the empty potion bottle. Chester is in the bathroom.)
EDWIN: The label is so small! Do you have a magnifying glass?
CHESTER: (from the bathroom) Top drawer!
(Edwin reads the label and gasps.)
EDWIN: Oh no… “Do not drink more than the recommended dose, or you will transform into—”
CHESTER: (from the bathroom) Edwin… I don’t feel so good…
(Chester steps out. He’s completely purple, with tiny glowing eyes.)
EDWIN: Chester! You look like… like a monster!
CHESTER: What?!
EDWIN: You didn’t follow the instructions!
CHESTER: I… I didn’t read the label!
EDWIN: That’s the problem!
CHESTER: What do I do now?
EDWIN: Wait a few hours. Maybe by tomorrow, you’ll be normal again.
CHESTER: And if I’m not?
EDWIN: Then you’ve learned your lesson. Next time—
CHESTER: I’ll study for the test.
EDWIN: Exactly.
(Edwin leaves. Chester hides under the covers.)
CHESTER: Next time, I’ll follow instructions…
CREEPY VOICE: …And read the label!
(Chester bolts upright.)
CHESTER: Who said that?!
CREEPY VOICE: Hehehehehe…
Chester’s shortcut to success only caused trouble. He learned that there are no easy ways out and that hard work always pays off.
