THE WITCH’S CURSE
CHARACTERS:
SARAH – A Brave Young Girl
THE WITCH – An Evil Hag
Scene 1:
(Sarah enters the stage, walking through a forest. She looks around nervously)
SARAH: (to herself) I can’t believe I’m out here all alone. But I have to find that witch and stop her from putting a curse on my village.
(Suddenly, the Witch appears from behind a tree)
WITCH: Well, well, well. Look who we have here. A little girl all by herself in the woods. (cackles)
SARAH: (bravely) I’m not afraid of you, witch. I know you’re the one who’s been cursing our village.
WITCH: (slyly) Oh, really? And what are you going to do about it, little girl?
SARAH: (determined) I’m going to stop you. (pulls out a sword)
WITCH: (laughs) You think a sword can stop me? I have powers you couldn’t even imagine.
Scene 2:
(The Witch waves her wand and casts a spell, causing Sarah to freeze in place)
WITCH: (tauntingly) Ha! You’re no match for me, little girl.
SARAH: (struggling to move) Let me go!
WITCH: (smirking) Not until I’ve had my fun.
(Suddenly, Sarah remembers something her grandmother told her)
SARAH: (reciting) “To break a witch’s spell, you must make her laugh three times.”
WITCH: (sarcastically) Oh, please. You think you can make me laugh?
SARAH: (determined) I’ll try. (Starts telling jokes)
Scene 3:
(Sarah tells jokes and does silly dances, trying to make the Witch laugh. Eventually, the Witch starts to crack a smile)
WITCH: (trying to hold back laughter) Stop it! Stop it, I say!
SARAH: (continuing to make the Witch laugh) Why did the chicken cross the playground? To get to the other slide! (giggles)
WITCH: (laughs) Stop it, you’re too funny! (the spell on Sarah is broken)
SARAH: (proudly) I did it! I broke your spell!
WITCH: (grudgingly) Yes, you did. But you haven’t seen the last of me.
(Suddenly, the Witch disappears in a puff of smoke)
SARAH: (smiling) I’m not afraid of you, Witch. My village is safe now.
