Annabelle is a rag doll known as “Raggedy Ann” that a woman bought for her daughter named Donna for her birthday in 1970. At that time, this doll was said to be demon-possessed, and the evil spirit that possessed her caused her to move around and write notes while Dona and her roommate were away.

The doll was never destroyed and is currently inside a blessed glass box at the “The Warren’s Occult Museum” owned by paranormal investigators and demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Some people who visited the museum said they heard growls coming from the doll and saw it move inside its box.

In the movie The Conjuring” which was released on July 19, 2013, in the United States. Annabelle is not a rag doll, but a terrifying porcelain doll. The change was made due to copyright and publicity purposes.

Ed Warren passed away in 2006, and Lorraine Warren on April 18, 2019. Since then, the museum has remained closed.

BACKGROUND:

In 1970 Donna, a nursing student turned 25, and on that day her mother gave her a Raggedy Ann doll. The young woman lived in an apartment with her best friend Angie and her boyfriend Lou, so she placed the doll on her bed with her arms and legs outstretched. She did so for several days, and always at night, the young woman noticed that the doll had its arms and legs in a different position than how she had left it. Over time, even stranger things happened, as the doll began to appear in different rooms, and notes written in pencil began to appear saying “Help us”, or “Help Lou”. The strange thing was that Donna had no pencils in her apartment. They thought that someone was hiding in their apartment and was playing a prank on them to scare them, but as events increased, they requested the services of a medium. The medium tells them that inside the doll is the spirit of a girl named Annabelle Higgins, who asks them to accept her as a companion. This fact draws the attention of Lou, who sees that Donna and Lara treat her as if she were human, while he thought that she was actually a malevolent doll or that she was possessed. One night, he has a nightmare in which someone is strangling him until he wakes up to find the doll at the foot of the bed, and he notices some superficial wounds on his neck.

One day when Donna came home from work, she found the doll with blood on her hands, and she noticed that it was coming out from inside the doll, that’s when she decided to contact a priest, who leaves the case in the hands of two parapsychologists: Ed and Lorraine Warren. They tell them that there is no such thing as Annabelle, but that inside the doll dwells an evil spirit that intends to possess Donna after having given her permission to enter her life. Eventually, the priest exorcises the apartment, dousing the doll with holy water before the Warrens take it to their home in Monroe, Connecticut.
