JERRY AND EDDY (twins)

SCRIPT:

 

 

SCENE I – IN SCHOOL

 

 

(JERRY, EDDY, AND MISS SUE ARE IN THE CLASSROOM)

 

 

JERRY:  Miss Sue, where’s Rex?.

 

 

MISS SUE:  He’s at the Principal’s office.  Don’t forget to take him home when you leave.

 

 

JERRY:  I won’t.  I’m very excited to have him with me for the weekend.

 

 

EDDY:  You mean with us.

 

 

MISS SUE:  No Eddy, this time Rex will be his responsibility.

 

 

JERRY:  Did you hear that Eddy?.  Only my responsibility.

 

 

(The school bell rings)

 

 

MISS SUE:  Well Jerry, take good care of Rex and I’ll see you both on Monday.

 

 

JERRY AND EDDY:  Bye, Miss Sue.

 

 

(Jerry and Eddy leave)

 

 

SCENE II –  AT JERRY’S AND EDDY’S HOME 

 

 

(Jerry and Eddy are in their bedroom)

 

 

JERRY:  Listen Eddy,  keep away from the cage.  Rex is my responsibility, and I don’t want to be in trouble because of you.

 

 

REX:  I’m Rex.  I’m Rex.

 

 

(Grandmother enters the room)

 

 

GRANDMOTHER:  Oh, what a beautiful bird!.

 

 

REX: Oh, what a beautiful bird!.

 

 

EDDY:  Hi grandma, Rex is our class’ pet.

 

 

GRANDMOTHER:  What is he doing here?.

 

 

EDDY:  It’s Jerry’s turn to take care of him for the weekend.

 

 

GRANDMOTHER:  You have to be careful with him.  Keep your bedroom’s door closed.

 

 

JERRY:  Don’t worry, he will always be in his cage.

 

 

(Grandmother leaves.  Jerry’s mother enters)

 

 

MOTHER:  Jerry, Louis is on the phone.

 

 

JERRY:  Thanks, mom.

 

 

(Mother and Jerry leave.  Eddy stays in the room)

 

 

REX:  I’m Rex.   I’m Rex.

 

 

EDDY:  It’s so hot in here!.

 

 

(Eddy tries to turn on the air conditioner)

 

 

EDDY:  The air conditioner doesn’t work, I have to tell mom.  I’ll open the window.

 

 

(Eddy opens the window)

 

 

REX:  I’m hungry.  I’m hungry.

 

 

EDDY:  Mmm, Jerry told me to stay away from you Rex.

 

 

REX:  I’m hungry.  I’m hungry.

 

 

EDDY:  Fine, where’s did Jerry put your food?.

 

 

(Eddy starts looking for the food.  He finds it in Jerry’s backpack)

 

 

EDDY:  Here it is!.  I’ll give you some seeds.

 

 

(Eddy opens the cage door.  Rex escapes and flies out the window)

 

 

REX:  I’m going home,   I’m going home.

 

 

EDDY:  No!.  Come back, come back! .  Oh no,  I’m in big trouble!.

 

 

(Jerry, Grandmother, and Mother enter)

 

 

MOTHER: What’s wrong?.

 

 

GRANDMOTHER:  Why are you yelling?.

 

 

(Jerry sees the bird cage empty)

 

 

JERRY:  Where’s Rex?.

 

 

(Eddy starts to cry)

 

 

EDDY:  Oh, I’m sorry Jerry, I tried to feed him and he escaped.

 

 

JERRY:  What!.

 

 

MOTHER:  Why did you open the window?.

 

 

EDDY:  It was so hot in here, I tried to turn on the air conditioner but it didn’t work, so I opened the window.

 

 

MOTHER:  And when you opened the cage door to feed Rex, he escaped, right?.

 

 

EDDY:  Yes, mom, I’m really so sorry.

 

 

JERRY:  I told you to stay away from the cage!.   what am I going to do now?.

 

 

GRANDMOTHER:  Just tell your teacher the truth, she will understand.

 

 

JERRY:  Rex is lost!.  And Miss Sue will never trust me again.

 

 

MOTHER:  Let’s go to her house and tell her what happened.

 

 

JERRY:  I’m so embarrassed!.

 

 

(Mother hugs Jerry)

 

 

MOTHER:  Come on, let’s go.

 

 

(They leave)

 

 

SCENE III – AT MISS SUE’S HOME

 

 

(They knock at the door.  Miss Sue opens the door)

 

 

MISS SUE:  Oh, what a nice surprise!.  I didn’t expect to see you so soon, Jerry.

 

 

JERRY:  Miss Sue, I came to tell you how sorry I am.  I lost Rex.

 

 

(They hear Rex talking)

 

 

REX:  I’m Rex.  I’m Rex.

 

 

JERRY:  What was that?.

 

 

MISS SUE:  It’s Rex.  He  came back home.

 

 

EDDY:  Miss Sue, please don’t blame Jerry, it was all my fault.   But now that I remember, when Rex flew through the window he said “I’m going home”!.

 

 

REX:  I’m Hungry.  I’m Hungry!.

 

 

EDDY:  Oh, no!.   Not again!.

 

 

(They all laugh)
