THE EMOTIONS OF PLAYTIME
Welcome to “The Emotions of Playtime,” a fun and imaginative play about the inner workings of a child’s mind. In this play, we’ll meet Emily, a happy-go-lucky little girl, and her five emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. As they navigate the ups and downs of playtime, they’ll learn the importance of working together and accepting all their different feelings. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
CHARACTERS:
EMILY: A HAPPY-GO-LUCKY LITTLE GIRL
JOY: AN ENERGETIC AND BUBBLY EMOTION
SADNESS: A QUIET AND INTROSPECTIVE EMOTION
ANGER: A FIERY AND TEMPERAMENTAL EMOTION
FEAR: A NERVOUS AND CAUTIOUS EMOTION
DISGUST: A SASSY AND OPINIONATED EMOTION
ACT 1:
(Emily enters, skipping and humming a tune)
JOY: (enters, bouncing with excitement) Hi there, Emily! I’m Joy, and I’m here to help you have the best playtime ever!
EMILY: (smiling) Yay! I love playtime!
SADNESS: (enters, looking glum) Um, excuse me, Joy. I don’t mean to interrupt, but I just wanted to remind Emily that sometimes, things don’t go as planned, and that’s okay.
JOY: (rolls her eyes) Oh, Sadness. Always the downer. Don’t worry, Emily. We’ll make sure everything goes perfectly.
ANGER: (enters, fuming) What’s going on here? Why are we wasting time on this sad stuff? Let’s get to the fun already!
FEAR: (enters, looking worried) Wait, hold on. What if something goes wrong? What if we get hurt?
DISGUST: (enters, tossing her hair) Ugh, can we please talk about something more interesting? Like, I don’t know, fashion or something?
EMILY: (looks confused) Um, what’s going on? Who are you guys?
JOY: (smiling) Oh, don’t worry about them. They’re just my friends. We’re here to help you have the best playtime ever!
ACT 2:
(Emily starts playing, but things quickly start to go wrong)
EMILY: (sighs) This isn’t as fun as I thought it would be.
JOY: (tries to cheer her up) Oh, come on, Emily! Let’s try something new!
SADNESS: (offers a different perspective) Or, we could take a break and just sit quietly for a minute. Sometimes that can help us feel better.
ANGER: (starts getting mad) No way! We can’t just give up like that! We need to keep trying!
FEAR: (gets more and more nervous) But what if we get hurt? What if something bad happens?
DISGUST: (rolls her eyes) This is such a waste of time. Can’t we do something more interesting?
(Emily starts to get overwhelmed and upset)
ACT 3:
JOY: (realizes her mistake) Oh no, I’m sorry, Emily. I should have listened to Sadness. Sometimes it’s okay to just take a break and be quiet for a while.
SADNESS: (smiles) Thank you, Joy. I’m glad we can all work together to help Emily feel better.
ANGER: (starts to calm down) Yeah, you know what? Maybe we should take a break. My temper was getting the best of me.
FEAR: (starts to relax) And maybe we can try something new later when we’re feeling more confident.
DISGUST: (starts to soften) I guess taking a break isn’t so bad after all.
EMILY: (smiling) Thank you, everyone. I feel better now.
JOY: (smiling) That’s what we’re here for, Emily. To help you have the best playtime ever, no matter what that looks like.
And that’s our play! We hope you enjoyed watching Emily and her emotions navigate the challenges of playtime. Remember, it’s okay to feel all kinds of emotions, even the uncomfortable ones like Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. By working together and accepting all our different feelings, we can help ourselves and each other feel better. Thank you for joining us today!
