A BIG QUIET HOUSE

CHARACTERS:

FARMER

FRIEND

NO DIALOGUES:

CHICKEN

2 LAMBS

HORSE

COW

SCRIPT:

ACT 1 – At the Farmer’s House

(The farmer and his friend are in the living room)

FRIEND:  What’s the matter?. 

FARMER: I feel sad, depressed, and very desperate.

FRIEND: Why?.  Do you have a problem?.  Tell me what’s happening, and I’ll try to help you.

FARMER:  My house is small, and noisy.  I wish it was bigger and quieter, so I could sleep better at night.

FRIEND:  I think I can solve your problem.  You just do as I say.  Bring into your house a chicken, two lambs, a horse, and a cow.  They will keep you company, and you will not feel sad and depressed.

FARMER:  That’s nonsense!.

FRIEND:  Do you have a better idea?.

FARMER:  Fine, I’ll do just that!.

FRIEND: (Stands and heads for the door)  Perfect!.  I have to go now, but I’ll come see you in a few days.

FARMER:  Thank you.

(His friend leaves the stage)

ACT 2 – At the Farmer’s House

(The chicken, the two lambs, the horse, and the cow are running in the house, breaking glasses and dishes, and making a lot of noise)

FARMER:  This is crazy! .  I  can’t stand having all these animals living in my home.  This is getting worse, and now my house looks smaller!.  I can not even walk insde my own house, and it’s noisier than ever.  There’s no room for all of us in here!.   

(His friend knocks at the door.  The farmer stands and opens the door)

FRIEND:  How have you been?.

FARMER: Not so good.  Your great idea is driving me crazy. There’s so much noise that I can’t even sleep or think.  I need more room!.

FRIEND:  Then, take all these animals out of your house.

FARMER:  I’ll do just that!. (Opens the door and takes out all the animals, then he closes the door and sits).  Ah, now I can finally relax!.

FRIEND:  How do you feel?.

FARMER:  I feel fantastic!. My house looks bigger, and quiet too. 

FRIEND:  That’s what you wanted, right?.

FARMER:  (Stands and hugs his friend)  Yes, I’ve learned to appreciate what I have.

FRIEND:  Good for you!.  Well, I have to go.

FARMER:  Please, come see me soon.

FRIEND:  I will!.

(His friend leaves the stage.  The farmer sits)

FARMER:  Home sweet home!.
