But soon they discover that even the best ideas can fall apart when no one is brave enough to make them happen. “The Mice Meeting and the Cat’s Clever Trap” teaches young readers that solutions require courage, teamwork, and responsibility.

SCRIPT:

(The set has one table for the CHAIRMAN and chairs around it. The Chairman is seated behind the table. The other mice are standing, moving around, whispering, and making agitated gestures.)

CHAIRMAN: Quiet in the room! We are about to start our meeting. (Mice suddenly scurry to their seats and sit down quickly.) Today we will talk about the cat. What do you have to say?

MOUSE 1: (Stands up, waves paws passionately): We would be so much happier if he weren’t here!

CHAIRMAN: We already know that!

MOUSE 2: (Stands up, stomps foot): I really dislike that cat!

CHAIRMAN: The point is… he scares us all the time.

MOUSE 3: (Stands up, throws paws in the air): We can’t keep living like this!

MOUSE 4: (Stands up, shakes head sadly): We don’t get to enjoy our lives!

MOUSE 5: (Stands up, holds stomach dramatically): We can never eat, and that’s why I’m always hungry!

MOUSE 6: (Stands up, whispers nervously): He is so quiet. We never know when he’s coming.

(All the mice talk loudly and anxiously at the same time. Mouse 7 jumps up, holding a small bell high above their head.)

MOUSE 7: I know what we can do! I have a small bell at home.

MOUSE 8: And so?

MOUSE 7: The next time he is sleeping, we can tie the bell to his neck!

MOUSE 9: (Jumps up, clapping and pointing at the bell): Oh, I get it! That way, when he comes for us, we will hear the sound of the bell!

MOUSE 10: (Jumps up, cheering): And we will be able to run away on time!

(All the mice jump out of their chairs, hug each other briefly, cheer, and clap loudly. This moment should be big and enthusiastic. The Chairman looks back at the Old Mouse, who has remained seated and serious.)

CHAIRMAN: Why aren’t you happy like us?

OLD MOUSE: (Remains seated, leans forward thoughtfully): It’s not a bad idea… but before I celebrate, I need to know one thing.

CHAIRMAN: What is it?

OLD MOUSE: Who will tie the bell to the cat’s neck?

(There is a long, dramatic silence. All the mice freeze, looking nervously at each other. Suddenly, the Cat enters from a side door/wing, making a soft “meow” or “hiss.”)

CHAIRMAN: (Jumps up, shouting in panic): The cat! The meeting is over!

(All the mice jump up and scatter around the stage once or twice in a panicked, squeaking rush. The CAT then chases the mice off-stage.)

In the end, the mice learn that planning is easy, but acting on those plans is much harder—especially when danger is involved. “The Mice Meeting and the Cat’s Clever Trap” reminds us that true bravery is not just a clever idea but being willing to carry it out. The story encourages children to work together, take responsibility, and think carefully before making decisions.

Even though the mice didn’t find their hero that day, they gained an important lesson that will guide them in the future: every problem has a solution, but every solution needs someone brave enough to make it real.
