The story of “The Brave Tailor” is a popular fairy tale that has been passed down through generations. It does not have a specific known author or a definitive date of origin. The tale has been adapted and retold by various authors and storytellers over time. Its earliest known written version can be traced back to the Brothers Grimm, who collected and published the story in their famous collection of fairy tales, “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” first published in 1812.

Welcome to a world of enchantment and bravery. Tonight, we bring you a timeless tale of courage and wit, filled with extraordinary characters and unexpected twists. Prepare to be transported to a land where a simple seamster dares to dream big and discovers that size is no measure of strength. So, sit back, relax, and let the magic unfold as we present to you… “The Valiant Seamster.”
NARRATOR: Once upon a time, there was a brave seamster who was always very busy sewing coats. Around noon, he was very hungry.
SEAMSTER: I am so hungry! I have been sewing all day, but I don’t have time to eat, and I have to finish this coat. Ohh, I need something to eat, but all I have is a dry piece of toast!
NARRATOR: Then he heard a voice outside.
OLD WOMAN: Fine new jam for sale. Good Jam!
SEAMSTER: I can’t resist such a treat! Old woman, come here and give me some jam!
OLD WOMAN: How many ounces would you like?
SEAMSTER: I’ll take four ounces.
NARRATOR: The seamster bought some jam for his toast. He ate a few bites. Then he put down the toast and went back to work. While he was sewing, some flies came in through the open window. They landed on the sweet, sticky jam. When he picked up his toast to finish it, he saw seven flies stuck in the jam.
SEAMSTER: Oh no, flies! Do you think this bread is for you? I will have to get rid of all of you!
NARRATOR: So the angry seamster struck at them with a piece of cloth. Seven flies fell to the ground, dead.
SEAMSTER: Seven at one blow!
NARRATOR: Then he made a belt and stitched on it, in big golden letters, the words “Seven at one blow.”
SEAMSTER: Now the whole world must know who I am and what I just did. But first, I will get a piece of cheese to take on my trip, just in case I get hungry!
NARRATOR: The seamster headed to the forest. There he found a little bird, he took it and put it in his pocket along with the cheese. He walked a little farther and met a giant.
SEAMSTER: Hello!
GIANT: Hi! Where are you going?
SEAMSTER: I am going to seek my fortune in the wide world. Would you like to come with me?
GIANT: Don’t be silly!
SEAMSTER: Why not?
GIANT: Because you’re little!
SEAMSTER: So what? I may be little, but I am strong!
GIANT: You… Strong? Ha, ha, ha, ha. You make me laugh!
SEAMSTER: Look at my belt if you want to see what kind of man I am!
GIANT: Mmmmm… Seven at one blow. So what?
SEAMSTER: It means that I am strong!
GIANT: Ha, ha, ha. I am a giant. So I am stronger than you!
NARRATOR: So the giant picked up a rock. He squeezed it so hard that water came out.
GIANT: I bet you can’t do that!
NARRATOR: The seamster just smiled and took out his cheese.
SEAMSTER: I will squeeze milk out of my rock!
NARRATOR: Then he squeezed the cheese until milk came out!
GIANT: I am still not convinced.
NARRATOR: The giant threw a rock far into the distance.
GIANT: Try that!
SEAMSTER: Not bad. But it fell back down to earth. Watch this.
NARRATOR: Then the seamster pulled the bird from his pocket and threw it in the air. The bird flew away.
GIANT: Wow!
NARRATOR: And the rock never came down.
GIANT: Where is it?
SEAMSTER: The rock is still high up in the sky. Ha, ha, ha, ha!
GIANT: But you can’t be that strong!
SEAMSTER: Remember… Seven at one blow!
NARRATOR: Just then, the king and some of his attendants came riding by.
KING: What’s this?
SEAMSTER: Nothing, your Highness. I’ve just captured this giant.
GIANT: Capture me? No way!
NARRATOR: And the giant ran away as fast as he could.
GIANT: I will not be eight at a blow! No, no!
KING: You have rid my kingdom of that giant. Take this bag of gold.
SEAMSTER: Oh, thank you, your Highness!
KING: Come with me to my kingdom. Everyone must know that a brave seamster got rid of the giant.
SEAMSTER: And he will never bother us again!
NARRATOR: And so, the little seamster found fame and fortune and lived happily ever after.
The valiant seamster, armed with his needle and thread, conquered not only the giant but also the limitations that society imposed upon him. His journey reminds us that true strength lies within, waiting to be awakened by courage and determination.
