Alice in Wonderland is a fictional character created by author Lewis Carroll. The story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, featuring the character of Alice, was first published in 1865. Lewis Carroll, whose real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, wrote the story as a novel for children, and it has since become a beloved classic of literature.
ALICE THROUGH THE RABBIT HOLE
Alice, a young girl with a vivid imagination, falls asleep and dreams of a strange world called Wonderland. She follows a white rabbit who is always late and falls into a rabbit hole.
Scene 1: The Rabbit Hole
(Alice falls down the rabbit hole and finds herself in a strange room)
ALICE: (wondering) Where am I? This room is so peculiar.
WHITE RABBIT: (running by) Oh, my ears and whiskers, I’m late!
ALICE: (curious) Who are you?
WHITE RABBIT: (frustrated) I’m late, I’m late for a very important date. No time to say hello, goodbye, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!
(Alice follows the white rabbit)
Scene 2: The Pool of Tears
(Alice finds herself swimming in a pool of her own tears)
ALICE: (frustrated) I’m just a little girl, I can’t seem to do anything right.
MOUSE: (swimming by) Oh, I don’t like this, I don’t like this at all!
(Alice tries to engage in conversation with the mouse, but he and the other animals are not very friendly)
Scene 3: The Caucus Race
(Alice joins the Dodo and other animals in a race)
DODO: (directing) On your marks, get set, go!
ALICE: (confused) What are we doing?
DODO: (cheerfully) We’re running in a circle until we’re dry.
ALICE: (muttering to herself) This is the silliest race I’ve ever been in.
Scene 4: The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
(Alice comes across the Mad Hatter and his friends)
MAD HATTER: (pouring tea) Would you like some tea?
ALICE: (surprised) Yes, please.
MAD HATTER: (smiling) We’re all mad here, you know. I’m mad, you’re mad.
ALICE: (laughing) That’s quite all right. I’m a little mad myself.
Scene 5: The Queen’s Court
(Alice is brought before the Queen of Hearts, who is playing croquet)
QUEEN OF HEARTS: (bossy) Off with her head!
ALICE: (defiant) No, you can’t do that!
CHESHIRE CAT: (appearing) Why not?
ALICE: (explaining) Because I haven’t done anything wrong!
CHESHIRE CAT: (smiling) Well, that’s certainly a good reason.
Scene 6: Alice Wakes Up
(Alice wakes up and realizes it was all just a dream)
ALICE: (sighing) What a strange dream. I suppose I’ll never know what it all meant.
