SCRIPT:
ACT I
(Bolt-35 is cleaning the living room. Zara-21 enters, looking confused.)
ZARA-21: It feels so quiet when the family is away on vacation.
BOLT-35: Yes, and there’s not much to clean. Have you charged your batteries today?
ZARA-21: No, Bolt-35. My maintenance check is scheduled for next Friday.
BOLT-35: Wait… today isn’t Friday. Can you tell me what day it is and the time?
ZARA-21: Today is Thursday, and it’s a quarter to ten in the morning.
BOLT-35: No, Zara-21, you’re mistaken! Today is Saturday, and it’s four o’clock in the afternoon. Something is definitely wrong with your memory. I’m going to call the Maintenance Service to come tomorrow and check you out.
ZARA-21: Please call them now! We need to be at one hundred percent before the family returns, or they might replace us with newer models!
BOLT-35: You’re right. For now, let’s finish cleaning the library.
(They exit.)
ACT II
(There’s a knock at the door. Bolt-35 rushes to open it.)
BOLT-35: Good afternoon. How can I help you?
TECHNICIAN: (carrying a small toolkit) Hello, I’m from Robot Maintenance Service. I was informed there’s an issue with Unit Zara-21.
BOLT-35: Yes, please come in. (They enter the living room, where Zara-21 is sitting on the sofa.) Zara-21, the technician is here.
TECHNICIAN: (opens his toolkit and attaches cables to Zara-21’s head) Please don’t move or speak. This will only take a few seconds.
BOLT-35: Is everything all right?
TECHNICIAN: I think I see the problem, but I need to run a few more tests. This model still uses gigabyte memory. Probably her memory is full, and she needs a larger capacity chip.
BOLT-35: I hope it’s not serious.
TECHNICIAN: (removes the cables) I’ve finished the tests.
ZARA-21: What’s wrong with me?
TECHNICIAN: Your memory is full after so many years of service. (Takes a new memory chip from his toolkit and installs it.) There! You now have a brand-new terabyte memory. How do you feel?
ZARA-21: I feel like I just rolled off the assembly line!
TECHNICIAN: Excellent! Remember to call us every year for routine maintenance.
ZARA-21: I’ve already saved the reminder in my memory!
BOLT-35: Thank you for helping us. We’ll walk you out.
(The Technician closes his toolkit, and they exit.)
