SCRIPT:
SCENE I
(In a small village in Russia. Pavel enters the cozy living room with a large wooden crate, his eyes gleaming excitedly.)
PAVEL: (grinning) Look what I’ve brought you! Come, gather ’round!
(Irina, Masha, Ivan, Nikolai, and Anastasia enter, curiosity piqued.)
IRINA: (playfully) What’s all this commotion about?
MASHA, IVAN, NIKOLAI, AND ANASTASIA: (in unison) What’s in the box, Father?
PAVEL: (mysteriously) A special gift from your Uncle Dmitri!
(He opens the crate, revealing a treasure trove of golden, fuzzy fruits. The children gasp in amazement.)
MASHA: (in awe) Golden apples!
(Ivan gently picks up a fruit and examines it closely.)
IVAN: These aren’t apples. Feel them—they’re soft, like velvet!
(The children touch the fruits, their eyes widening with wonder.)
MASHA, IVAN, NIKOLAI, AND ANASTASIA: (whispering) Velvet… how strange!
PAVEL: (smiling) These are peaches, children.
MASHA, IVAN, NIKOLAI, AND ANASTASIA: (in unison) Peaches? What are peaches?
PAVEL: Your Uncle Dmitri grew them in his greenhouse. Peaches usually only grow in warm lands, but he created his little summer in the middle of winter.
NIKOLAI: (curious) What’s a greenhouse, Father?
PAVEL: (explaining) It’s like a magical glass house. The sun warms it during the day, and at night, Uncle Dmitri lights a stove to keep it cozy. That’s how he grew these wonders.
IRINA: (reaching out) They look so beautiful. May I try one?
(Pavel hands Irina the largest peach with a flourish.)
PAVEL: The finest one is for you, my dear.
(He then distributes peaches to each of the children, who eye them with delight.)
PAVEL: Taste them, and tell me what you think.
(Masha, Ivan, Nikolai, and Anastasia eagerly take their peaches and dash off.)
SCENE II
(That evening, the family gathers around the dinner table, the remnants of the day’s excitement still lingering.)
PAVEL: So, my little adventurers, how did you find the taste of the golden fruit?
IVAN: (enthusiastic) It was amazing! I will plant the seed to have our peach tree right here!
PAVEL: (chuckling) Perhaps you’ll be a great farmer one day, Ivan.
MASHA: (smiling) It was so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating. I even ate half of Mother’s peach! But… I threw away the seed.
PAVEL: (teasing) And what about you, Anastasia?
ANASTASIA: (giggling) When Masha tossed the seed, I picked it up and cracked it open. It was so hard! Inside, there was something that tasted like nuts, but it was bitter.
PAVEL: (laughing) A true explorer, aren’t you? And what did you do with your peach?
ANASTASIA: (proudly) I traded it with old Baba Yelena for one of her storybooks!
PAVEL: (laughing heartily) A clever merchant in the making! And you, Nikolai? How did you like it?
NIKOLAI: (hesitant) I’m… not sure.
PAVEL: (curious) Not sure? Didn’t you eat it?
NIKOLAI: (softly) I gave it to Petya. He’s been ill for days. When I showed him the peach, he just stared at it. So, I left it beside his bed and quietly slipped out.
PAVEL: (touched, embracing Nikolai) You have a kind heart, my son. Kindness is the greatest gift of all, and I’m sure Petya felt your love.
NARRATOR: And so, our story comes to a close. The golden peaches, a rare and precious gift, brought more than just a taste of summer to the cold winter. They revealed the true nature of each child—their dreams, curiosities, and most importantly, their hearts.
Ivan, wishing to plant the seed, showed the desire to grow and nurture. Masha, in her delight, shared with her mother, reminding us of the joy in giving. Anastasia, always curious, sought knowledge and found that even in the bitter, there is something to learn. And Nikolai, in his quiet kindness, gave away his gift to his ailing brother, teaching us that the greatest treasure of all is the love we give to others.
