THE FOX, THE GOAT, AND THE WELL OF WISDOM

SCRIPT:

SETTING: A deep well in a forest.

NARRATOR: Welcome to our forest, a place where adventure and lessons await around every corner. Today, we bring you a tale of wit and wisdom, where not all is as it seems. Join us as we uncover the story of “The Fox, the Goat, and the Well of Wisdom,” where cleverness and kindness meet unexpectedly.

[The scene opens with a deep well in the middle of the forest. The Fox is inside the well, looking sad and desperate. Nearby, the Rabbit, Owl, and Squirrel are playing and talking.]

FOX: (looking around) How am I ever going to get out of here? I’ve tried everything. I guess I’m stuck here forever.

[The Rabbit hops near the well and peeks inside, seeing the Fox.]

RABBIT: (shouting down) Halloo, Fox! What are you doing down there?

FOX: (sighing) I fell in. Can you help me get out?

RABBIT: (scratching his head) I’m not sure how. Let me ask my friends. [The Rabbit hops back to the Owl and the Squirrel.]  Owl, Squirrel, come quickly! The Fox is trapped in the well!

OWL: (flapping her wings) Oh dear! We must help him. But how?

SQUIRREL: (thinking) Maybe we can find a rope or a branch to lower down.

[The Goat enters, looking very thirsty. He approaches the well and looks down, seeing the Fox inside.]

GOAT: (shouting down) Halloo! What are you doing down there? Is the water good?

FOX: (brightening up) The best I ever tasted! It’s cool, clear, and delicious. Come down and try it yourself.

GOAT: (eagerly) I will! I’m nearly dead of thirst. [The Goat jumps down into the well and starts drinking the water. The Rabbit, Owl, and Squirrel arrive back at the well, carrying a rope and a branch.]  (happily) Oh, how refreshing!

FOX: (smiling slyly) Yes, it is. But now that you’ve finished drinking, how do you expect to get out of this well again?

GOAT: (pausing) Oh, I don’t know. How do you expect to get out?

FOX: (pretending to think hard) That’s what I’ve been wondering about for the last hour. But I’ve just thought of a good plan. If you put your forefeet high up on the wall, I will climb up your back and get out. Then I can help you out.

GOAT: (trustingly) Very well, that sounds like a good plan. How I wish I had your brains!

[The Goat puts his forefeet on the wall. The Fox climbs up the Goat’s back and easily gets out of the well. The Rabbit, Owl, and Squirrel watch in surprise.]

RABBIT: (to Owl and Squirrel) Look, the Fox is getting out!

FOX: (laughing) Thank you, my friend!

GOAT: (looking up) Wait a moment! You forgot to help me out!

FOX: (mockingly) You foolish fellow! You should have thought about how you would get out before you jumped down. I fell in, but you went down of your own accord. Look before you leap next time!

OWL: (calling out) That wasn’t very kind, Fox!

SQUIRREL: (to Goat) Don’t worry, Goat! We’ll help you out.

RABBIT: (throwing down the rope) Grab the rope, Goat!

[The Goat grabs the rope, and with the help of the Rabbit, Owl, and Squirrel, he climbs out of the well.]

GOAT: (gratefully) Thank you, friends. I’ll be more careful next time.

OWL: (wisely) Always think before you act.

SQUIRREL: (nodding) And remember, true friends will always help you out.

[The animals all smile and nod. The Fox sneaks away, realizing he has lost potential friends.]

NARRATOR: And so, the Fox went on his way, having used his cleverness but at the cost of friendship. The Goat learned a valuable lesson about thinking ahead, and the Rabbit, Owl, and Squirrel showed the power of true friendship and teamwork. In the end, it’s not just wit that gets us through tough times, but kindness and cooperation.
