SCRIPT:

SCENE I – IN SCHOOL

(The classroom is buzzing with excitement. Jerry, Eddy, and Miss Sue are in the midst of the action.)

JERRY: Miss Sue, where’s Rex?

MISS SUE: He’s at the Principal’s office. Make sure to fetch him on your way out.

JERRY: Oh, I won’t forget. Rex and I are going to have an epic weekend together.

EDDY: You mean, all three of us.

MISS SUE: Sorry, Eddy, but this time Rex is Jerry’s sole responsibility.

JERRY: Did you catch that, Eddy? Solo mission!

(The school bell rings.)

MISS SUE: All right, Jerry, take good care of Rex. See you both on Monday!

JERRY AND EDDY: Bye, Miss Sue.

(Jerry and Eddy leave, setting the stage for the weekend adventure.)

SCENE II – AT JERRY’S AND EDDY’S HOME

(The twins are in their bedroom, ready for the unexpected.)

JERRY: Listen, Eddy, stay away from Rex’s cage. I’m in charge this weekend, and I can’t afford any shenanigans.

REX: I’m Rex. I’m Rex.

(Grandmother enters the room, adding a touch of charm.)

GRANDMOTHER: Oh, what a magnificent creature!

REX: Oh, what a magnificent creature!

EDDY: Hi, Grandma. Rex is our class pet.

GRANDMOTHER: What brings him here?

EDDY: It’s Jerry’s turn to babysit for the weekend.

GRANDMOTHER: Be mindful of him. Keep your bedroom door locked.

JERRY: Don’t worry, Grandma. Rex will stay in his cage.

(Grandmother exits, leaving the room buzzing with anticipation. Mother enters.)

MOTHER: Jerry, Louis is on the line.

JERRY: Thanks, Mom.

(Mother and Jerry exit, leaving Eddy alone with Rex.)

REX: I’m Rex. I’m Rex.

EDDY: It’s sweltering in here!

(Eddy attempts to turn on the air conditioner.)

EDDY: Ugh, the air conditioner’s on strike. I need to inform Mom. Let’s crack a window open.

(Eddy opens the window, unleashing a potential storm.)

REX: I’m hungry. I’m hungry.

EDDY: Jerry warned me to keep my distance. But fine, where did he stash your grub?

(Eddy hunts for the food, finding it in Jerry’s backpack.)

EDDY: Jackpot! Let’s feast, Rex.

(Eddy opens the cage door, and Rex seizes the opportunity to spread his wings.)

REX: I’m going home. I’m going home.

EDDY: No! Come back! Oh no, I’ve stepped into a jungle of trouble!

(Jerry, Grandmother, and Mother storm into the scene.)

MOTHER: What’s the ruckus?

GRANDMOTHER: Why the uproar?

(Jerry notices the empty birdcage.)

JERRY: Where’s Rex?

(Eddy breaks into tears.)

EDDY: I’m sorry, Jerry. I tried to feed him, and he took off.

JERRY: What?

MOTHER: Why did you open the window?

EDDY: It was scorching. I tried the air conditioner, but it’s not working. So, I cracked the window open.

MOTHER: And when you fed him, he took flight, right?

EDDY: Yes, Mom. I’m genuinely sorry.

JERRY: I told you to steer clear of the cage! What do we do now?

GRANDMOTHER: Just tell the truth to your teacher. She’ll understand.

JERRY: Rex is gone! Miss Sue will never trust me again.

MOTHER: Let’s head to her place and fess up.

JERRY: I’m mortified!

(Mother embraces Jerry.)

MOTHER: Come on, let’s face the music.

(They exit.)

SCENE III – AT MISS SUE’S HOME

(They knock on the door, and Miss Sue opens it with a smile.)

MISS SUE: What a delightful surprise! Didn’t expect to see you so soon, Jerry.

JERRY: Miss Sue, I need to confess. I lost Rex.

(They hear Rex chattering in the background.)

REX: I’m Rex. I’m Rex.

JERRY: What’s that?

MISS SUE: It’s Rex. He returned home.

EDDY: Miss Sue, please don’t blame Jerry. It was all my fault. And now that I think about it, when Rex flew out, he said, “I’m going home!”

REX: I’m hungry. I’m hungry.

EDDY: Oh no, not again!

(They all share a hearty laugh.)
