Scene 1: Mother Ludlam’s Cave

[Lights up on a cave near the village of Frensham. Mother Ludlam is busy brewing potions.]

NARRATOR: (Addressing the audience) Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather ’round for a tale of magic and bravery in the heart of Surrey!

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Stirring her cauldron) Ah, another day of helping those in need with my potions.

[Enter The Devil, disguised as a beggar.]

THE DEVIL: (Approaching Mother Ludlam) Kind lady, I am but a weary traveler. May I borrow your cauldron to cook a simple meal?

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Suspicious, but kind-hearted) Very well, but use it wisely.

[Mother Ludlam hands the cauldron to The Devil.]

THE DEVIL: (Taking the cauldron) Thank you, kind lady. I will be sure to return it soon. (To himself) I will use this cauldron to brew a potion that will put the people of Surrey under my control. They will do whatever I command, and Surrey will be mine!

[The Devil exits.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (To herself) Something about that beggar doesn’t sit right with me. I think I’ll follow him and see what he’s up to.

[Mother Ludlam exits.]

Scene 2: Waverley Abbey Ruins

[The Devil is at the ruins of Waverley Abbey, using the cauldron to brew the sinister potion.]

THE DEVIL: (Laughing) Soon, the people of Surrey will fear me. They will cower in their homes, afraid to come out. Surrey will be my kingdom, and I will rule with an iron fist.”

[Mother Ludlam enters.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Confronting the Devil) Stop right there!

[The Devil turns to face Mother Ludlam.]

THE DEVIL: (Smirking) Ah, Mother Ludlam. I was wondering when you’d show up.

MOTHER LUDLAM: What are you up to, Devil?

THE DEVIL: Just brewing a little something to put the people of Surrey in their place.

MOTHER LUDLAM: You won’t get away with this.

THE DEVIL: Oh, but I already have.

[The Devil raises his hand and casts a spell. Mother Ludlam is knocked to the ground.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Struggling to get up) No!

THE DEVIL: (Approaching Mother Ludlam with the cauldron) Now, where were we?

[Mother Ludlam reaches out and grabs the Devil’s leg. She bites down hard.]

THE DEVIL: (Yelling in pain) Ow! Let go!

[Mother Ludlam lets go and kicks the Devil in the stomach. He staggers backward and drops the cauldron.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Snatching up the cauldron) That’s for Surrey!

[Mother Ludlam runs off with the cauldron. The Devil chases after her.]

Scene 3: Return to the Cave

[Mother Ludlam returns to her cave with the cauldron.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Sighing with relief) I’ve got the cauldron back, but the Devil is still out there. I must use this cauldron to protect the people of Surrey.

[Mother Ludlam begins to brew a protective elixir. Mother Ludlam finishes brewing the protective elixir.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Holding up the elixir) This elixir will shield the people of Surrey from the Devil’s dark magic. I must deliver it to the village at once.

[Mother Ludlam leaves her cave with the elixir.]

Scene 4: A New Beginning

[Mother Ludlam arrives at the village square. The villagers are gathered around, worried about the Devil’s threat.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Addressing the villagers) People of Surrey, I have good news! I have brewed a protective elixir that will shield you from the Devil’s dark magic.

[The villagers cheer.]

MOTHER LUDLAM: (Distributing the elixir to the villagers) Drink this elixir, and you will be safe.

[The villagers drink the elixir. ]

Scene 5: Conclusion

[The villagers are celebrating, and Mother Ludlam is watching them with a smile on her face.]
