The Mischievous Phouka

THE MISCHIEVOUS PHOUKA

Welcome to our exciting adventure into the world of Irish folklore and mythology! In this play, we’ll follow the story of a young girl named Mary, who’s about to discover a strange and magical creature called the Phouka.

CHARACTERS:

NARRATOR

MARY – A young girl

PHOUKA – A mischievous fairy creature

ACT I

(Scene: Mary is sitting on a bench in the park, reading a book)

NARRATOR: Once upon a time, in a peaceful park, a young girl named Mary was reading a book.

MARY: (looks up from her book and sees Phouka) Oh, hello there! Who are you?

PHOUKA: (mischievously) I am the Phouka, a fairy creature from Irish folklore. And who might you be?

MARY: My name is Mary. It’s nice to meet you, Phouka.

PHOUKA: (smirking) Likewise, Mary. What are you doing here all alone?

MARY: I’m just reading a book. What about you? What do you do, Phouka?

PHOUKA: Oh, I like to play pranks on people. It’s my favorite thing to do.

MARY: (laughs) That sounds like fun! Do you think you could show me one of your pranks?

PHOUKA: (grinning) Of course! But be careful what you wish for, Mary.

ACT II

(Scene: Phouka and Mary are walking through the park)

NARRATOR: Phouka and Mary walked through the park, looking for someone to prank.

PHOUKA: (pointing to a group of people) How about those people over there? Let’s turn them all into frogs!

MARY: (giggles) That sounds like a funny prank, Phouka. But isn’t it mean to turn people into frogs?

PHOUKA: (pauses and thinks) Hmm, you might be right, Mary. Maybe we should find another prank to play.

MARY: (smiling) I have an idea! How about we leave a trail of candy and see if anyone follows it?

PHOUKA: (laughs) That’s a great idea! Let’s do it.

ACT III

(Scene: Phouka and Mary are hiding behind a tree, watching as someone finds the candy trail)

NARRATOR: Phouka and Mary left a trail of candy and hid behind a tree, waiting to see if anyone would follow it.

(Enter John, a young boy)

JOHN: (notices the candy trail) Wow, free candy! I’m going to follow it and see where it leads.

PHOUKA: (whispers to Mary) This is going to be great!

JOHN: (reaches the end of the candy trail and finds a note that says “You’ve been tricked!”)

JOHN: (surprised and disappointed) Aww, I thought this was going to be real candy.

MARY: (giggles) Sorry about that, John. It was just a prank.

PHOUKA: (laughs) And a very good one, if I do say so myself.

JOHN: (smiling) It’s okay. It was still fun to follow the trail.

NARRATOR: The Phouka may have a reputation for being mischievous and tricky, but with the right mindset, their pranks can bring happiness and laughter to those around them.
