NEW SHOES
CHARACTERS:
PETER
DENISSE – Peter’s sister
CLERK
SCRIPT:
ACT 1 – IN PETER’S BEDRROM
PETER: (In his computer searching in the internet) I need new shoes. I hope I can find them online (keeps looking in his computer) Great! These are the ones I like… and at a very good price! (keeps reading) Oh no, today is not my lucky day. They don’t have them in my size!. I’ll have to go to the store. (Denisse enters)
DENISSE: What are you doing?.
PETER: I’m going to buy a pair of shoes. (He stands, takes a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, then he takes off his socks and shoes)
DENISSE: What are you doing?.
PETER: Shhh don’t ask. (He draws his bare feet on the sheet of paper. Then he takes a ruler and measures their length and width. He writes the measures on the sheet of paper, then he puts on his socks and shoes) Done!. (He gives the sheet of paper to Denisse) Hold it, please. Now I have to look for my wallet.
DENISSE: (looking at the drawing) I don’t understand why you drew your feet on this sheet of paper.
PETER: I need the measures so I can go and buy my new shoes!.
DENISSE: You’re behaving really strange. Did you sleep well last night?.
PETER: Here it is!. (He places the wallet in his pocket) I’m leaving. The offer is just for today. See you later sis!.
(Peter leaves the stage. A few minutes later he enters the stage)
DENISSE: Did you forget something?.
PETER: The sheet of paper!.
DENISSE: Here it is!
PETER: I have to hurry!. It’s getting late, and the store might be close by now.
(Peter takes the sheet of paper and leaves the stage)
ACT 2 – AT THE SHOE STORE
(Peter tries to open the door, but it’s locked. The Clerk sees Peter and opens the door)
PETER: Please, let me in!.
CLERK: I’m sorry…but we’re closed.
PETER: I need to buy a pair of shoes. I came early, but I had to go back home because I forgot to bring my feet measurements (shows the clerk the sheet of paper).
CLERK: That’s increíble!. You foolish man!. You could have trusted your feet and tried the shoes on in the store!. Why did you go home to get your drawing?
PETER: I guess I trusted my measurements more.
CLERK: Then come back tomorrow. And don’t forget to bring your drawing! Ha, ha, ha, ha (closes the door)
PETER: (Knocks at the door) No, please!. If I come back tomorrow, I won’t get a discount. They will be more expensive!. Open the door!.
