THE FROGS AND THE SUN
CHARACTERS:
FROG 1
FROG 2
FROG 3
FROG 4
SUN
SCRIPT:
(Frog 1, 2, and 3 are in the pond. Frog 4 enters the stage)
FROG 1: Where were you?.
FROG 4: You’re not going to believe what they told me!.
FROG 2: Who’s they?.
FROG 4: The monkeys! They said that…
FROG 3: Stop it!. I’m trying to sleep.
FROG 4: You better listen… this is very important!
FROG 1: What is it, then?.
FROG 4: The monkeys told me that the sun decided to change its course… and that it will only shine on earth every six months!.
FROG 3: So?. What’s the problem?.
FROG 4: Don’t you get it!. Come on… wake up… wake up! …Think!.
FROG 1: I get it. What about the rest of the year?.
FROG 4: Oh, I’m so scared to tell you this!.
FROG 2: Oh…oh… I have a bad feeling that something terrible will happen to us.
FROG 3: Don’t be pessimistic… maybe it’s not true.
FROG 4: It is!. You have to believe me!.
FROG 1: Fine. Tell us the rest of the story!.
FROG 3: Yeah… tell us… so that I can go back to sleep!.
FROG 4: Well… the rest of the year will be dark and cold.
FROG 1, 2, AND 3: Dark and cold?.
FROG 4: Yes!. If we have no sunshine…there will be no light… no heat…and our earth will get cold!.
FROG 2: Hmmm… it doesn’t sound good. Our ponds, lakes, and rivers will dry out and we will not survive.
FROG 1: What can we do?.
FROG 3: What will happen to us?.
FROG 4: Well, we will not be able to enjoy our comfortable life. There will be no insects and you know what that means… don’t you?.
FROG 3: Do you mean there will be no food?.
FROG 1: That’s right!. No water, no food, no life.
FROG 3: No life!.
FROG 2: It’s not fair!.
FROG 4: Yeah, we should complain!.
FROG 1: Let’s make a demonstration against the sun!.
FROG 2: Should we gather all the animals in the forest, or just us?.
FROG 1: Just us. I don’t care about the others!.
FROG 3: Yeah, forget about them!.
(They hear a voice and they look up)
SUN: Are you complaining because you will not be comfortable anymore?.
FROG 1, 2, 3, 4: Yes!.
SUN: Are you complaining only because of you?. Because you want me to shine and heat the earth during the whole year?.
FROG 4: Yes. It’s all about us, not for anybody else!.
FROG 3: It’s your job to keep us warm and comfortable!.
FROG 1: So do your job!.
SUN: I’ll come back when you stop being so selfish. When you stop thinking only about yourselves, and when you start caring about others.
(The Sun leaves the stage)
FROG 1, 2, 3, 4: (crying) No, don’t go. Don’t leave us, please, come back or we will die. Come back!.
